Jeju, South Korea Jeju Island

Opportunity: Jeju Maintenance Coordinator
Location: Jeju, South Korea Jeju Island
Opportunity Type: Career or Launch ShortTerm Missionary
Dates: August 27, 2022 - August 15, 2023
Oversee, develop and maintain the Bible Institute physical plant. Train and disciple younger staff and students who will be working with you.

WOLBI Jeju is a cross-cultural launching pad for training and sending young people into the most unreached part of the globe with the Gospel--into Asia. We have 5 log buildings and 6 acres of land. When maintenance, repairs and development are being taken care of efficiently, it makes the learning experience much better for students and frees other staff to focus on ministry. The coordinator is also able to train young people and teach them skills that will be useful in their future.

Details

Travel

By plane to Incheon International Airport (cost $1000-$1500) and then transfer to Gimpo Airport to fly to Jeju Island (cost $50-$100). The trip is approximately 20-24 hours. Layovers may extend this time. WOLBI staff will meet you at the Jeju Airport to transport you to campus.

Visa

WOLBI can apply for a one-year missionary visa for the volunteer. The visa paperwork process would need to begin June 1 before coming in September.

Food

olunteers are able to purchase meals at the WOLBI diningroom. The cost is about $8/meal/person. Couples are encouraged to eat breakfast and dinner at home.

Housing

A small efficiency apartment on campus or a shared dorm with other single male staff.

Transportation

WOLBI is located in a rural area so having the ability to drive is very helpful. Volunteers with driving experience and an international driving permit may be able to use some of our ministry vehicles. Most of our vehicles are 12-passenger, though, so the driving permit needs to cover that. Volunteers are welcome to purchase a used vehicle for personal use if desired.

Qualifications

Preferably a “jack-of-all-trades” who has experience with maintenance (carpentry, electrical, plumbing etc), construction, basic groundskeeping and creative problem-solving. A love of young people and the ability to manage are also important since you will be training and directing others who assist you.

Other

We have students on our campus for 11 months, so it is very helpful to have volunteers rotate in with the students and rotate out when they do. Korea is very strict and safe in regard to COVID. Depending on the current situation and government guidelines, 10-14 days of quarantine on our campus may be required when you enter Korea. Most airlines/governments require a negative rapid PCR test within 24-72 hours of boarding the plane.

Finances

About the Finances

The cost per month is between $750 - $1000 depending on whether you are single or married. This includes rent, utilities, food, and emergency insurance in the US and Korea.
