Arrive Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. There are no airport fees. Dates of arrival and departure will be set after your position is secured. Email the intern coordinator at Internship@WOLHBI.com with your travel itinerary and we will work with you to provide the necessary transportation to our campus. When WOL provides transportation it will cost approximately 5,000 Forints ($25 USD). Price varies in accordance with the price of gas, etc.
You will need a Visa within 90 days of your arrival. WOLH will assist you in filling out the forms and taking you to and from the immigration office. The length of your Visa will depend on how long you choose to stay in Hungary. The cost is approximately 20,000 Forints ($100 USD). If you want to bring an extra passport photo with you then you will not have to pay for a new one upon your arrival.
Three meals each day are served on campus in the castle. The menu varies from day to day. Interns will need to raise funds to cover the costs for their time spent in Hungary like all of our full time staff missionaries. As mentioned previously the approximate cost for one year is $8,000 USD. This includes: housing, food, salary.
Interns are provided with dorm living with 4-8 international roommates. Occasionally there is off-campus housing available. Public transportation is available within a few blocks of the campus. Most of the ministry opportunities you will be involved in will be on campus. Budapest is approximately 45 minutes by car from the campus.
Towels, [bedding is provided – most pillows that provided are of the feather variety], personal items, Bible [New International Version is used most often, but any good translation is acceptable], calendar, adapters/converters, laptop or tablet. 220v, 50 Hz is used in Hungary. Medications: limited amount of aspirin, cold medicine, etc. as “over-the-counter medicines are difficult to find. Allergy medicines that contain antihistamines are prescription drugs in Hungary. There is the option of getting a cell phone once here. The phone bill is not included in these figures. Washers and dryers are available for use: 100 Forints to operate each machine [$.50 USD each 100 Forint]. Detergent is not provided. Limited storage space, so we recommend that you carefully evaluate what you will need. Keep in mind that on international flights from the US to Europe you are limited to one carry-on and one checked piece of luggage. Please check with the airline for information on the weight limit.
Business casual/casual office attire. No sport shoes, no sneakers, no T shirts in classes. Neat and modest clothing required. Dress slacks is the norm. Skirts to the knee. For the men: nice pants, collared shirt and regular dress shoes. A tie is not necessary. Blue jeans only outside of office hours unless working in areas that require them (Housekeeping, kitchen, maintenance, etc.). You will also want to bring at least a couple of sets of dress clothes for special occasions, that would include a tie and suit or sport coat for the men and a dress or blouse and skirt for the ladies. Year-round climate is generally like the lower Midwest in the US so you should plan on warm clothes for winter and cool clothes for the spring and summer months.

Most items you may need are available in stores that are accessible by either walking or use of public transportation. There is an ATM machine available near the campus and in various businesses in nearby villages. There is no checking system in Hungary. Credit and Debit cards (Visa or MasterCard). We recommend you do not bring traveler’s checks.
