Southampton, Bermuda

Opportunity: One & Two Year Cross Cultural Internships
Location: Southampton, Bermuda
Opportunity Type: Intern
Dates: January 11 - December 16, 2016
Cross Cultural Internships will give candidates exposure to Word of Life ministry in local churches, public school clubs, with personal mentorship by experience WOL missionaries. Opportunities for preaching/teaching, teen and children's ministry, local church planning and weekly involvement. Candidates will also have first had experience in national evangelistic events like Superbowl, Children's Olympian Games, Vacation Bible Schools and teen camping. Every aspect of planning, budgeting, executing and reporting of all events and programs. This internship is open to both men and women who have had at least one year of Bible College and are considering full time ministry.

Internships in Bermuda provide the candidate a cross-cultural ministry experience in English. Most internships offer exposure to some aspects of Word of Life ministry, but a year or two in Bermuda will provide experience in every aspect of the various youth and adult training ministries of Word of Life. Interns will work daily with career missionary staff, teaching in public school clubs and assisting with the overall expansion of WOL Teen Clubs across the island. WOL missionaries in Bermuda have more opportunities for school and local church ministry than they can manage. Interns provide needed help and assistance to staff and serve as role models for eager Christian teens in clubs and camps. International exposure is also available as Bermuda is the training field for opportunities of service in most of the Caribbean Islands for Word of Life ministries. An intern in Bermuda this year and possibly a Career missionary in the Caribbean shortly thereafter.

Travel

Travel to Bermuda will require interns to have a current US Visa, as all flights into Bermuda come via The US or Canada. Bermuda is a British (UK) Dependent Territory and flights to Bermuda from London as also a possibility for qualified interns. Bermuda is an expensive tourist-type destination but flights to Bermuda occur daily from most US Eastcoast cities (Miami, Atlanta, Washington DC, Newark, Philadelphia, NY, Boston). A roundtrip ticket to Berrmuda from most gateway cities is going to cost from $480-$750. There is only one airport in Bermuda: L.F. Wade International Airport.

Visa

Most countries that require a VISA for travel to the United States will also need a visa for Bermuda. However each intern is evaluated on an individual basis. Americans, Canadians,UK & some European residents do not need a visa to visit Bermuda. In order to live and work in Bermuda interns, Word of Life Bermuda will apply for a work permit (work visa) to cover your time in our country. This application will require background checks, x-rays, medical and immigration information.

Food

Word of Life Bermuda has not camp property or compound where the staff & interns live. Our director, staff and interns live in homes, apartments and neighborhoods along with other Christian families and neighbors. While in Bermuda you will have normal opportunities to meet, visit and witness to your neighbors just like our staff. In most cases you will prepare your own food in an apartment style living, but where needed we can arrange for interns to live with a family for their time in Bermuda. Most food in Bermuda is the same as The USA with most brands and types of foods exactly what you would find in a US grocery store or restaurant.

Housing

Interns will stay in apartments with cooking facilities, either sharing an apartment with another intern or possibly living with a Christian family for part of their time in Bermuda. The cost of housing is included in the budget for one year in Bermuda.

Transportation

While it is possible to apply for a driver's license in Bermuda, the most economical means of travel while ministering in the internship is to ride a "Moped". Interns will be taught to ride the small motor scooter and the cost and operation of a motor scooter will be worked out with WOL staff. Word of Life Bermuda also has a ministry van for transporting staff to all events and activities when required. In Bermuda each family is limited to 1 car per registered household. The second form of transportation for all Bermudians is a motor scooter. You will fit right into the culture as you zoom around to ministry appointments on your moped.

What To Bring

Bermuda has a moderate sub-tropical climate. Our winters Dec - March have average temperatures off 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit and our summers are usually in the high 70's and 80's with a very high humidity. Clothing should be comfortable with modest shorts and shirts warn in the summer and light jackets and raincoats for the winter. Winter will also require a few sweat shirts and sweaters. Sunday dress varies depending on local church attendance and most ministry is done by our staff in casual 3-button shirts and casual pants. Ladies will need a skirt or dress for some local church ministry. Summer camp ministry is mainly shorts and t-shirts with more than one swimsuit for multiple opportunities for beach and boating fun. Obviously you will need your Bible and your personal computer or tablet will be an asset. We will provide a local sim card for cellular service while in Bermuda.
