Ministry Description

My ministry at Parole de Vie will involve two areas: (1) touching up my French at their Missionary Language School (to be able to minister effectively!) and (2) joining the wonderful Camp Leadership team to serve the youth of Quebec. I am so honoured to be able to serve in youth Bible camps, a ministry that God has used hugely in my own faith and my family's.

About Abigail

I am from Ontario, Canada. My parents love the Lord and demonstrated for me what dependence on God and belief in Jesus means. I was fed abundantly with the Word of God through involvement at church and studying the Bible in elementary and high school (I was homeschooled). My home was filled with Christian radio and music daily. God used these things to teach me what He was like. He captured my heart from a very young age, and I wanted to follow Jesus. Katie Davis was my hero, and I used to dream of becoming a missionary. Being very performance-oriented, my understanding of the Gospel's freeness and what grace is was faulty for quite some time. This is incredible, seeing how many times I had heard the gospel! But God, in His mercy, gave me what I needed in His proper time: a Christian camp. It was there, summer after summer, that He finally unwrapped the beauty of the Gospel for me. A burden then grew in me for youth discipleship ministry, and helping young people who do not understand the gospel yet. I also became weighed down with a sense that I was not giving the Lord complete control of my life. My dream to become a missionary turned into a fear. I pursued my own dreams. Finally, after Jesus was convincing me more and more of His faithfulness and good intentions, in a moment of extreme conviction, at a camp rally, I told my Saviour I surrendered my future to Him. If He wanted me to be a missionary, I would be a missionary.

I spent one year studying at the Word of Life Bible Institute, Owen Sound, with my future a blank page, asking what the Lord had next for me. One night in particular, I remember just being distraught that I did not know what was next, and I asked our Father for at least my "next step." I specifically wanted to make use of the French language He had given me. (I had grown up in an entirely anglophone environment, and the passion, opportunity, and ability to learn it had seemed like God's direction).

The next morning a staff friend beelined me at coffee break and asked: "have you ever considered interning with Parole de Vie in Quebec? You would be perfect."
I did some research, committed it to prayer, and here I am. I am convinced that this is where my Lord wants me; I am excited to see what He's doing here and how I can be a part of it!

Galatians 2:20: "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
