Ministry Description

My primary ministry has been at SYME, an English immersion bible training center in central Taiwan

SYME stands for:
Shèngjing - Bible
Youyì - Friendship
Mén xùn - Discipleship
Yingwén - English

This is a discipleship training center that teaches English using the Bible as our core focus. Here at SYME, I will be living alongside our students as an English mentor, discipling them and simply living life with them. During the week, we will teach them the Bible and help them practice their conversational English, and we also have daily chapels, Bible clubs, and special ministry days throughout the year.

I am in the process of preparing for my return in June 2024 for the remainder of the year and potentially long term after 2024. This is a place that has some dedicated followers of Christ, but I have seen for myself the great need for even more workers in the field. I have decided to answer that call myself.

About Brandon

My story started off like many others. I was raised in a Christian household, had troubles in school but still graduated, went out into the workplace, and quickly got caught up in establishing myself in adulthood. At 28 years old after I'd accomplished every childhood and young adult goal I'd set for myself aside from getting married, I still felt empty inside.

I joined a church where they spoke regularly on the importance of reading your bible and started to read on my own and very quickly my faith came alive and I'd found what was missing from my life: relationship with Jesus Christ. I felt called to continue in my existing career and look for ways to share the gospel though I did not know how or where. As the years started to blur past, I married, struggled, prayed, received council, adopted my son, and before I knew it I was middle aged, divorced, an empty nester, and laid off from work.

Though I felt joy, pain, regret, accomplishment, and loss from many things, I knew this wasn't without purpose. Through it all, God has been with me. My life did not go according to my plans, but it did go according to His plan. Now a bit older, I am ready to serve God in whatever he has planned for me. New beginnings are never without fear of the unknown, but I can rest with peace that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, even for me.

Without the resurrection there is no good news and just as Christ overcame death and rose to glory, he makes the way for us to die to our old lives and be born again into new life. I learned to let old things in my life go and embrace the new life I am given.
