Ministry Description

About Taiwan!
Taiwan is an island nation on the east coast of mainland China inhabited by 23.5 MILLION PEOPLE, which is over one million more people than the entire state of Florida, even though Taiwan is only about a quarter of the size. From the late 1970s to the 1990s, Taiwan underwent political and social reforms that transformed it from an authoritarian state to a democracy. A vast majority of people in Taiwan follow what would be considered Taiwanese folk religion, which consists of ancestral worship, sacrifices to spirits and demons, shamanism and animistic practices. Buddhism, and to a lesser extent Hinduism and Daoism also have a religious presence. Only about 1.5% of the 23.5 million people in Taiwan could be considered followers of Jesus.

Our Roles!
We will have the privilege of serving as teachers at SYME, Word of Life's English Immersion School in Taiwan! We get to English as a second language to Taiwanese students using the Bible as a textbook, and take on a discipleship role in many of the students lives! This looks like helping them develop integral Christian disciplines such as time alone with the Lord, reading His word, prayer, sharing their faith, and more. We are excited to lead worship at chapels and equip the students to be involved in the worship service. More than anything, our goal is to do everyday life with them, through our daily walk showing them the love of Jesus and how He changes everything.

About Casey

I grew up in Jacksonville, FL regularly hearing about Jesus from a young age from my family, and attended church with my great grandparents every Sunday. When I was in second grade, I was very anxious about the concept of death, and my mom told me about that I didn’t need to be afraid, because death had lost its sting! She walked me through the gospel and I decided to follow Jesus around 6 years old. I continued growing in my faith, serving in church and in my parents’ para-church ministry called Love This Much. I decided to go to Word of Life Bible Institute after high school to deepen my faith, and after a year of constantly being confronted by and wrestling with the truth, and seeing God’s steadfast love in the hardest of situations, I decided to put my yes on the table for God to do whatever He wanted with my life.

After that, I found that God wanted me to bring glory to His name among all the nations of the Earth, and I committed to doing Word of Life’s Cross Cultural Internship (CCI) to prepare me for missions and mobilizing others in the future. The Lord continued to put the country of Taiwan before my eyes, and the more I learned of the people and their need for Jesus, the more He grew my heart for them. Along the way, I got married to Montana, who was also planning to be a missionary in Taiwan, and now we get to go together!

About Montana

My parents became Christians when I was around 10 years old. A few years later, when I was 14, God started revealing my need for Him. When I talked to my dad about it, he told me that it was the Holy Spirit. My dad, my pastor, and my pastor's father shared the Gospel with me shortly after. I realized, if the Gospel is true, it changes everything. I put my faith in and started following Jesus. I recognized I was a sinner, that Jesus paid for my sins through His death on the cross, and that 3 days later He rose from the grave giving new life to all who believed Him.

I came to Word of Life Bible Institute after high school. During my time there, God taught me so much about trusting Him with every worry that I had, and that I could even trust Him with my future. In that, God showed me His loving heart for the people all over the world that did not know Him. Both of those lessons led me to making the decision to doing missions overseas. After I learned more and prayed for the people of Taiwan, my heart grew for them (it is still growing!!). I then decided to be a missionary in Taiwan. Along the way, I got married to Casey, who was also planning to be a missionary in Taiwan, and now we get to go together! We are so excited to share the same love God has given us to others.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18
