Ministry Description

The focus of Word of Life Pará is to reach the “river people” who live along the Amazon River. There are over 33,000 communities without access to the Gospel. Our strategy is to evangelize and disciple the youth from the urban centers of Brazil, train them to become pioneering missionaries in our five-year missionary training institute, and then help coordinate our graduates, in conjunction with their home churches, as they plant new churches in the river communities. We reach about 10,000 young people each year with our camps, public school, Christian school and Bible clubs ministries. We have over 150 full-time students in our institute. Our missionaries are currently planting churches in over 150 different communities through the boat ministry.

About Josh

I grew up as a missionary kid at Word of life in Brazil. After I graduated from high school in Brazil I attended Word of Life Bible Institute in New York for 3 years, and served on the production team all three years. During my second year, I met my wife Hilary. After serving as the production intern during my third year, I moved to Maine to be with Hilary where we got married and started our family. For the past 10 years I have served at Central Church in Maine in various operational roles, but primarily as the production director. I've always felt called to go back to Brazil and be a part of Word of Life’s ministry there, and we believe God has opened that door for us now. We are excited to be stepping into it!

About Hilary

I was raised in a rather large family in a christian home in central Maine. Being the youngest of 6 children I had the privilege of watching my parents and siblings set the bar for godly living. While I always desired to be a missionary I was never sure how that would happen. After graduating nursing school I went to Word of Life Bible institute in New York, where I met my husband, Josh. As I learned about his life as a missionary kid and eventually visited his home in Brazil, I fell in love with the ministry! We decided after our wedding we would stay in Maine for 1 year to establish ourselves as a couple before moving to Brazil. Of course the Lord had other plans for us and after 10 years of waiting we are excited to finally join the ministry!
