Hi, I'm Lily Livingston. I minister in Taiwan.
I am part of an internship program at SYME! I will be moving out of my family's home to live in the dorm near SYME. Typically interning in a teaching role would involve coming to work Tuesday - Friday and activities on weekends as well. I would start the day doing devotionals together with Taiwanese students. Followed by potentially teaching English classes, prepping, admin work, or even helping with translation. After English class we have Chapel where students do various ministry tasks to practice ministry skills, I may coach several of them or do a task in Chapel as well. This is followed by lunch and a time of relational building with students. After that begins Bible class where I might teach or work with 1 of 4 different Bible classes. The rest of the time I may do lesson plans, assignments, or help out with many of the evening activities and events of the ministry. The internship will have me developing and practicing in many different ministry roles. On top of that I’ll also be provided a mentor who is there to check in with me and help me grow over the internship.

God has led me through my many transitions as a missionary kid, and even as I stumbled through grief and finding belonging, he was always there. At my lowest, most lonely points, God met me and gave me hope. For most of my elementary years, I studied at a Taiwanese local school. I was blessed and challenged there, as I grappled with learning Chinese as a second language. I was also often called the "foreigner," though my mom was Taiwanese, but my dad American. Growing up with this mixed heritage was complicated in Taiwan, but being on this island has also blessed and strengthened my journey with Christ. Taiwan is part of what I call home, and as my parents dedicated almost twenty years serving here, I would also like to give back to Taiwan in how it has blessed me. Even though I had many rough days here, I am grateful that God gave me the gift of being bilingual, and I believe he's calling me to use this gift to help others learn English. On this journey of being a teacher intern this year, I hope to reveal what the truest, greatest Teacher is like as I help locals on their education journeys.
