Word of Life (WOL) Ecuador is passionately committed to reaching the youth of the nation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and equipping them to live for Him. Our ministry operates year-round through evangelistic camps, discipleship programs, and strategic partnerships with local churches.
Every year, thousands of young people hear the Gospel through our camps, school outreaches, and church events. In 2024 alone, over 8,700 youth were reached, with more than 900 making decisions for Christ. Our Intensive Discipleship Center (CID) offers young believers a full-time residential program where they are trained in theology, personal discipleship, and ministry skills. Many of our current leaders and staff are graduates of this very program.
The WOL Ecuador team is made up of:
5 missionary families serving full-time
8 single collaborators, many of whom are preparing for long-term missionary service
A growing network of local volunteers, church leaders, and short-term missions teams from both Ecuador and abroad who serve alongside us.
Our vision is to see at least one missionary team living and serving in every major region of Ecuador—bringing the Gospel to children and youth in every corner of the country. We believe the next generation holds tremendous potential to impact their families, communities, and churches when they encounter Christ and are discipled to follow Him faithfully.
Ecuador is located in the northwestern region of South America, straddling the Equator—hence its name. With a land area of approximately 283,000 square kilometers, it features an extraordinary variety of landscapes, including the Amazon rainforest, the Andean highlands, and the Pacific coastline. It is also home to the unique Galápagos Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Ecuador’s population is around 18 million people, with the largest cities being Guayaquil, Quito (the capital), and Cuenca. The country is known for its rich cultural blend of Indigenous, Spanish colonial, and Afro-Ecuadorian influences. Historic centers such as Quito and Cuenca are renowned for their well-preserved colonial architecture and vibrant traditions.
Religiously, Ecuador is predominantly Roman Catholic. While around 80–85% of the population identify as Catholic, many combine Catholic rituals with indigenous beliefs and practices. In recent decades, evangelical Christianity has grown significantly, especially among the younger population and in rural areas.
Economically, Ecuador is considered a developing country, with a mixed economy based on oil exports, agriculture (like bananas, cacao, and flowers), and tourism. Despite its natural wealth, many families face economic hardship, especially in rural regions. Politically, Ecuador has seen more stability in recent years, although social and economic challenges persist, especially in the wake of global crises.
This beautiful yet needy country is wide open to the Gospel, especially among its youth. There is great spiritual hunger and a growing openness to biblical discipleship.
