Daniel and Ana Gonzales have directed Word of Life Ecuador since 1990. Today, there are five full-time couples and five full time singles working out of the capital city office. The ministry includes five weeks of youth camps in February and August with up to 150 campers attending each week. The missionary team ministers through evangelistic campaigns and Open Air Evangelism bringing the gospel and music to the streets. Public schools have been receptive to the evangelistic drama, "Born Again to a Living Hope." In 2003 over 16,000 people were exposed to the Gospel through Word of Life Ecuador's ministry with almost 4,000 trusting Christ as their Savior. 10 Bible Clubs are now in operation in various local churches.
Ecuador is situated in the northwestern corner of South America across the Equator. The country's 283,000 sq. km of volcanic landscape ranges from tropical Amazon jungle to coastal plains and Andes mountains. Ecuador is home for 11 million people and displays a remarkable diversity of culture with Indian museums, well preserved colonial structure in old Spanish cities, and Quito, the picturesque capital city. The culture of the country has been strongly influenced by Roman Catholicism. Today about 90 percent of the population claim to follow Catholic beliefs, but most blend the religion with pageantry and traditional Indian practices.
