Ministry Description

The ministry here first began in 1978 when a man who had graduated from the Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake, NY arrived in Curacao. The following year, we were able to have our first camp there. In 1993 Kenneth Ansano became the director of this ministry. Each year the ministry rents property at three different times throughout the year to be able to have one week of camp each time. Currently the ministry is involved in helping out the local church through the Bible Club program. They are also involved in camps (as previously mentioned) as well as Open-Air Evangelism. Each year they try to send a few people to Schroon Lake to participate in Youth Reachout ministry trips. In the past, several Youth Reachout trips have gone to the Netherlands-Antilles for ministry opportunities.

Country Description

Once the center of the Caribbean slave trade, the island of Curacao was hard hit by the abolition of slavery in 1863. Its prosperity was restored in the early 20th century with the construction of oil refineries to service the newly discovered Venezuelan oil fields. Netherlands-Antilles is a group of five islands ranging from Curacao north of Venezuela in the Caribbean to Saint Marten east of the US Virgin Islands. This small country of only 960 sq km is home to more than 212,000 people who observe a variety of religions, namely Roman Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and Seventh Day Adventist.
