Ministry Description

The specific ministry I am working with is called English Cafe. English Cafe is an online conversational English training website that also includes scripture and a gospel presentation in each lesson. The vision of English Cafe is to create a space where North American Christians can engage with people from around the world to develop relationships, present the Gospel, provide conversational English training and ultimately to make disciples of Christ. We will also be partnering with local missionaries and church leaders in the communities where students live in order to ensure students that want to engage in a local church are connected. My responsibilities involve all things related to recruiting, developing and supporting English Cafe teachers. Daily duties include developing training courses and delivering training courses to new teachers, participating in new teacher English Cafe classes, answering teacher questions, seeking input from teachers for ways to improve the program and speaking to people about the program in order to recruit new teachers. This program is brand new (started in Fall 2023), so we're both developing and implementing simultaneously. We had 11 teachers and 30+ students at the end of 2023 and as of May 2024 we have over 30 teachers and 100+ students from nearly 30 countries! Our goal is to have a total of 100 teachers/classes by the end of 2024. Each teacher will have a class of three to four students, so that adds up to a lot of people hearing the Gospel!

About Mark

I was raised in a Christian home and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior in 1975 at the age of 9 at Baptist Community Church in Afton, Wyoming. During my teen years I drifted away from my relationship with Jesus (I never rejected my faith, but wasn't taking it seriously either) and spent most of my time focusing on school and other activities. In 1988, at the age of 22, I married the love of my life, Tami, and also recommitted my life to Christ, and I've never looked back. I have taught Sunday School, headed up our church's men's ministry, led several discipleship/Bible study groups, worked with our youth program, and participated as a member of our church's missions committee. While I have felt led to work in each of these areas, the two ministries that I believe God has definitely put a stronger burden on my heart for are discipleship and world missions. I spent three weeks in Thailand in 2010 traveling around the northwest part of the country with two missionary friends visiting church plants in various villages and sharing the Gospel and connecting with brothers and sisters in Christ. The whole experience was a small taste of what we'll experience in heaven...fellowshipping and praising God forever! It also deepened my desire to live out the Great Commission in the context of international missions. For a variety of reasons (cancer in the family, caring for aging parents, etc.), we were not able to pursue work in international missions.,,,until now. Fast forward to 2023, and our kids have grown up, we moved from Oregon to Wyoming and now Ohio, where we connected with English Cafe! We really caught the vision for what English Cafe could provide...a platform for reaching the lost throughout the world through presenting the Gospel in a conversational English program. My background and experience (and heart for missions) align well with the teacher coordinator role within the program. We are excited to see how God uses English Cafe to grow His kingdom!!

About Tami

Tami accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in 1976 at age 10. She was raised in a Christian household and has never wavered in her faith. She has been a homeschool mom, a preschool teacher and a reading aide. We have two children, Nicole (29) and Steven (27). Nicole and her husband David have three children, Mary (6), James (4) and Daniel (2) and a new baby granddaughter due in July 2024! They worked in Taiwan at Morrison Academy for almost 7 years until moving to Xenia, Ohio last year to work at Legacy Christian Academy. We went from living over 5000 miles away from our grandkids to now living two doors away!
