Get to Know Patrick Burger

Hi, I'm Patrick Burger. I minister in the United States.

Ministry Description

As an Open Air Evangelism intern, I have the opportunity to share the Gospel with the lost on a regular basis. This takes the form of regular trips to places like NYC, Philly, or Albany, to name a few. Not only do we get to fulfill the Great Commission ourselves, but we have the opportunity to encourage others in fulfilling it as well. Often we will have teams of church members or students from the Word of Life Bible Institute, which we train beforehand, then oversee and encourage as we share the Gospel out on the streets.

About Patrick

At the young age of 5, while going over a Pre-K memory verse that I don’t even remember today with my mother, waiting in the mall parking lot for I don’t remember who, something happened that I very much do remember: I began to understand the Gospel. The seed that my mother, siblings, pastor, and Sunday school teachers had begun planting before I understood a word began to take root and grow. I realized something of my sin, understood something of Christ’s death for me, and His resurrection, and repented and believed. Isn’t it amazing how the God of the universe who humbled Himself enough to take on the form of an infant still today, again and again, condescends to take up residence in all those who believe, regardless of age, gender, ability, or status? Even the least among us, a 5 year old boy, with such a small, limited grasp on the vast, endless grace of God, is not too modest a residence for Christ.
I was privileged to be raised by a believing mother and supportive father, who home-schooled or put us in Christian schools. Surrounded by so many examples of Christ-likeness in my everyday life, and educated so that every subject revolved around faith in God and His Word, I was put in the perfect position to understand early that I was called to the ministry in some way or other. On top of the parents that I had, and early teachers at school, as I entered my teen years God put a small army of Godly men in my path who would help guide me closer to where God was leading. Some took me witnessing out on the streets, some brought me to meet the needs of others, bringing food or doing manual labor for those in need. My pastors let me preach and guided me through the process, and others challenged me to think critically and figure out for myself why I believed the things that I do. All of them loved, supported and prayed for me. It’s all of those influences that God put in my life that have shaped me and brought me to the place I am today, sharing the Gospel with the lost alongside the Open Air team here at Word of Life. And, even while I look back, and think what a long journey it’s been and how far I think that I’ve come, I know that in a few more years I’ll look back and see that I’ve just begun to dip my toes in the ocean of the Christ Life!

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes..." Romans 1:16a
