Hi, I'm Caleb Morton. I minister in Chile.
Each of us has a story to tell about how we have gotten to a certain chapter in our lives. I would like to give you a synopsis of our story.
I was raised as a missionary kid at the Word of Life camp in Chile, SA. So Chile is very close to my heart. When my wife passed away at the end of 2021, I started contemplating taking my kids on a 2-3 week trip there to spend some time learning about the country. They would have the chance to see where I spent my childhood and to also gain an unforgettable life experience.
Up until the last few months that seemed only a distant possibility. However, there is an opportunity for us to make the trip, but instead of it being a short trip, we will be staying for 4-5 months. Chile has several projects that could go forward if there was someone who could be a project manager. I am fluent in Spanish andI have a background in construction. There are a number of projects that need done, and being able to be there for an extended period of time will allow us to accomplish more.
A bleacher system for the soccer field is in the beginning phases and will be one of the first projects to be completed. There are other projects too, the main kitchen needs some work, also the water system needs a new tower for the property. I’m sure that once we get there, even more projects will show up.
We leave August 27 and plan to return in the middle of January.
I have 3 children, Lena (15), Lincoln (14) and Logan (12). Lena will turn 16 and Logan will get to turn 13 while in Chile! They are excited about this opportunity and very much looking forward to flying. We leave August 27 and plan to return in the middle of January.
During the time we are in Chile, my kids will be going through a homeschool/online education. We have homeschooled before, but this will be a little different with the online part and the fact that they are getting into the math lessons that I haven’t gone over in 30 years.
We have some needs for this trip :
-the cost of our travel insurance.
-some form of transportation while we are there. (The plan for that will be to either leave the vehicle there or to sell it and leave the funds there for the local missionaries. It will be more cost effective to buy and resell than to rent or lease a vehicle.)
- Prayer - while I am fluent, my kids are not. There is always an adjustment to new situations, but this will be culture AND language.
-if we could pay for the entire year of homeschooling before we go, we can save 40% of the cost.
This will be an exciting chapter to our story and we would love you to be a part.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our family and our trip.
