Ministry Description

We are serving the Lord as a missionary with Word of Life Czech Republic. Word of Life ministry is focused on reaching youth with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. One of the main Word of Life ministries is camp. Each summer and winter there are several weeks of camp where many youth and children have the opportunity to hear the Gospel and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. Between camp seasons we serve local churches through music ministry, youth group assistance, preaching, discipling new believers, mini camps, and teaching English in local schools.

About Athang

My name is Tum Thang Nguntual. I am originally from Hakha City, Myanmar, and I grew up in a Christian home. From a young age, I had many opportunities to hear the gospel. When I was about nine years old, I put my faith in Jesus Christ, fully understanding that He died for my sins on the cross and rose again on the third day.

When I was twelve years old, I moved to the Czech Republic, where I have now lived from 2009 until now. This transition was very difficult for me. I did not know the language or the culture, and one of the hardest challenges was not having a church to attend. As a new believer, I was hungry for the Word of God, but there are very few evangelical churches in Czechia.

I started school without knowing the Czech language, and it took me a long time to learn it. I thank God that He gave me ability in sports. Through sports—especially soccer—I made many friends who helped me adjust to life in a new country. However, most of my friends were unbelievers, and our interests were very different. It was a challenge to maintain a growing Christian life while being surrounded by unbelieving influences.

During secondary school, while studying engineering, I began playing soccer at a professional level. Soccer and school became my top priorities, and my relationship with God slowly declined. I had little time to focus on spiritual growth.

During this season of my life, I was invited to Word of Life Camp, which became a place of spiritual renewal for me. I began attending every summer starting in 2012. When I was nineteen years old, I was invited to serve as a camp counselor for the first time. Although my Czech language skills were still weak, God used me for His glory, and one of my campers accepted Christ as his Savior. Through this experience, I realized that God can use anyone who is willing—even someone who struggles with language.

One year later, I made a commitment to the Lord to give up my soccer career and pursue Bible school, choosing to serve Him in full-time ministry. I was recently accepted as a Word of Life missionary, and I am currently in the process of learning and preparing for long-term ministry. I am involved in local youth groups, preaching in churches, and discipling new believers.

Today, I serve together with my wife, Kamila Nguntual, whom God has given me as a faithful partner in life and ministry. We share a heart for reaching young people, strengthening believers, and serving the local church. Together, we desire to glorify God and faithfully serve Him wherever He leads us.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
