I was born and raised by parents who fear and honor God. My mom was the first person to preach the gospel to me. She told me that unless I gave my life to God, I would go to hell. This really scared me, and so I gave my life to Jesus. I really did not know what that meant, so long as it kept the fear of going to hell at bay. A few years later I was grown and was not really frightened by the idea of hell. And so I lived my life as reckless as life allowed me. I did all the experiments I could: drugs, stealing, and many other things that every other young person in my neighbourhood tried.
One day, in high school, as I was attending a Christian Union meeting, I gave my life to Christ. There was a young man from a University who came to share the gospel that day. I still remember his name: Haggai. He shared from John 14:6, “I AM the way, the truth and life”. This was my turning point. My entire life had been full of searching for satisfaction and assurance. It was all in Christ. That day the emptiness that life and all therein could not fill was filled. I felt free. After the transformation came the need to live a holy life. One that pleases God, something that I was not so good at doing. One year later, after graduating from high school, I joined Word of Life Short Term Bible School, currently known as Discipleship Training Center. It was there that I got to know more about God, what He expected of me, daily dying to self, etc. A verse I came to love was Galatians 2:20. I met men who were committed to walk with me in the journey of salvation. I learnt from them, and now I too have availed myself to evangelise and disciple young people that are going through life without hope and the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
I grew up hearing the Gospel from my parents and church family. It took many years for me to understand the permanence of salvation. By the end of high school, I had made Christ my Lord and given Him my life. After high school, I studied at the Word of Life Bible Institute and then interned with Word of Life in South Africa and Uganda, where I met my husband. Toby and I were married in April of 2022. We are so excited to be part of Word of Life now as full-time missionaries here in Kenya, where Toby is from. What a privilege to be able to dedicate ourselves to full-time disciple-making.
