Growing up, my parents were careful to teach me about Jesus. So, although I knew a lot about Him in my earlier years, I spent most of my time trying to impress those around me. I was trying to make myself great in their eyes by acting like a good Christian; but in reality, I wasn't concerned about my relationship with Christ. This mask came off and became a real face as I began to think about my parents' faith as a teenager. I realized that I was sinful and God is holy. Though my selfish heart offended God and earned me the penalty of death, God loved me enough to send Jesus Christ - His own pure and sinless Son - as a sacrifice to pay for my sin. Now, I don't need to pretend. Having a genuine relationship with Him and knowing of His great love inspired and spurs me on to do all that I can to please Him. Now, I want to build Christ's glory in the world; not my own.

I have always been interested in the work of missionaries. There was something thrilling about the idea of sharing the hope in Christ with people from another culture. After listening to some messages from Paul Washer, I curiously looked into some of the missions fields on his organization's website. I was shocked to discover that the field of Japan was considered an unreached people group because so few there people professed to be believers. Learning that was a spark God used to kindle a passion to see Japan get ministered to. Now, later on, when I first attended the Word of Life Bible Institute, my goal was simply to gain a foundational understanding of Scripture and prepare for whatever might lie ahead. Word of Life did equip well toward that goal, but by the end of my first year of study I found that there was an excellent opportunity to become a missionary with them - particularly to Japan. For after my second year studying at the institute, God opened that door. I couldn't possibly refuse to pass through. And here we stand, today.
