About Oyugi

Hi there, I am Yonah Oyugi. I was born into a Roman Catholic family in Mombasa, Kenya. When I was 6 years old, my dad passed on. After my father's death, life took a different turn. My mother took us to a protestant church where I was raised. She made sure that we were in Church every Sunday. It was there that I met most of my friends. Having grown in the church, I seemed like a good boy. However deep down I felt the distance because I didn’t have a relationship with God.

In August of 2005 I gave my life to Christ at the revival at my church. The gospel was presented and my heart was convicted of my sin. I realised that my heart was far from God and I believed in Christ. After salvation, there was no sudden changes in my life. It was in 2007 at a student’s camp, where I was assured of my salvation and dedicated my life to Christ. I understood that I was a sinner and it’s only through God’s grace that I can be saved. I learned about God’s love and how he demonstrated it by sending his only Son, Jesus Christ to die for me.

In 2013, my brother told me about the starting of Word of Life Africa Bible Institute (WOLABI). I was eager to join but on the other hand I did not want to go to study again because I was working and getting a good salary. I knew studying would mean no payment. Not long after that at work, my boss who happened to be a Muslim argued with me over certain aspects of the Bible. I could not clearly explain the scriptures and that made me realise I didn’t know the Bible. This was when I made the decision to resign from my job, and accept to go and study God’s Word for a year which I am grateful I did.

Due to being daily exposed to God’s Word, my walk with God grew. I grew to love his Word as I saw it come alive in a more practical way in my life. I developed a desire to share what I was learning to others. It was a great environment, as I was being discipled and having accountability partners. My naïve attitude of coming to the BI to prove God to unbelievers changed as I realised God doesn’t need to be defended.

After that year, I knew that God was calling me into fulltime ministry so I can gently and patiently point others to Him. I was given an opportunity to serve at the Bible Institute as a discipleship coordinator (DC) for the male students. I served there for two and half years. In September 2016, I joined the National Theological College & Graduate School (NTCGS). I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to be exposed to the Word of God so I may grow deeper in His word. My desire is to grow in grace and the knowledge of God and be able to teach and preach God’s word effectively. Currently I am looking at being a missionary with Word of Life to Tanzania. I have visited Tanzania a couple of times on Missions trips and I have grown to love the people. Because I speak their language, I relate better to them and I would want to make more impact amongst the youth for God’s glory.

Never be lacking in zeal but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer, Romans 12 :11-12
