Ministry Description

The Word of Life team in South Korea is busy making disciples through personal evangelism, discipleship, and teaching. As I go to join the team, my role will be to come alongside them in discipling others through local church ministries, personal relationships, and through teaching English to Koreans.

About Zachary

For most of my life growing up in the church I was taught certain things about the gospel that confused me without me knowing it. Because of this, I relied on having a "working" faith in order to be saved, so I could never have certainty of my salvation. On top of my already intense fear of death and dying, the uncertainty of whether or not I'd "persevere" to the end and end up going to hell kept me awake many nights. But Jesus promised eternal life to all who believe in him for it. Therefore, since I never was sure of my eternal destiny, I never believed the promise which saves. I was born again and saved from the penalty of sin after much stress and anxiety going through the gospel of John over and over again, when I finally was persuaded that I had eternal life just by believing Jesus' promise of eternal life. Now that I know I am a child of God with a promised inheritance of eternal life without a single doubt, I am able to focus on serving the Lord out of gratitude instead of obligation or fear, out of love for the lost.

But even before I believed the right gospel, I still believed that Christianity was true. But some experience or personal testimony is not enough to prove that Christianity is true, only evidence is... and we have sufficient evidence! Christianity is true because it is proven by the evidence, beyond reasonable doubt, that the man Jesus Christ of Nazareth was indeed God in the flesh, the Son of God, as he claimed. He proved this by raising himself from the dead, to show that he has power over death, and the authority to forgive mankind of their sins through the sacrificial payment on the cross. Because we can know this event is historically factual, we can know that Jesus is who he said he is, meaning that every word out of his mouth was God speaking. Therefore, the promise of eternal life to the one who believes in Jesus for it is fully trustworthy!
"'Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.' Then they said to him, 'What must we do, to be doing the works of God?' Jesus answered them, 'This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.'" (John 6:27-29)

Ever since I was young I remember always having a deep admiration for East Asian cultures (at least of what I knew about them). This admiration was watered to grow into the path I am currently on, to serve in South Korea, by the ministry of Word of Life Bible Institute. Specifically, through my 2nd-year classes of World Religions and Intercultural Issues, and even more so the class trip to Ethnos360's Wayumi retreat, a deeper passion to be a part of the great commission was lit within me. With WOL's Cross-Cultural Internship as a clear open path for me to reach the field, I made the decision to commit my life to the mission field. In other words, God called me to the ministry of global missions through his Word, which is the calling on all believers. But God gave me an amazing opportunity to choose to do this calling specifically in South Korea, and I am so excited! In all this, I pray only that my life will be pleasing and of eternal worth to my Savior Jesus Christ on that day when he comes for his Church to give us rewards, and that as many men as possible may be saved on account of me sharing the message of eternal life in Jesus alone.

John 3:14-18 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
