Ministry Description

Before starting WOL ministries in South Asia (country's name withheld), we underwent training for SYME (School of Youth Ministries in English) in Taichung, Taiwan.

We are currently in South Asia (country's name withheld), since June 2017. We've been meeting people who are interested about Word of Life ministry. All we can do for now is to present Word of Life, as our focus is to learn the national language. We are presently learning the national language at home. We also get a daily dose of the country's culture as we rub shoulders with them in school or at the store.

Jon has a group of teens with whom he is regularly ministering by way of Home Bible study. Sheila co-leads a weekly "WiseMom" Bible study which has grown from 3 ladies to 11 ladies. Jon has visited schools in national capital during weekdays. Sometimes he speaks at their Bible hour. In fact, there's a school (name withheld) where he spoke to 25 students who gathers weekly to have Bible Study every Friday afternoon. Jon was asked to talk about the 5th Commandment, "Honor thy father and mother." A topic lost in Asian culture due to technology and separated parents. Not only do they tend to honor their gadgets and social media more than their parents, but also honor one parent over the other for the same reasons.

About Jon

I grew up in the church ever since I can remember. At eight years old, we moved to the United States from the Philippines. Even though I grew up in the church, I had no concept of my eternal destination. I first heard the gospel when I was 34 years old. The pastor preached about John 3:16 and 14:6, these verses taught me that Jesus is the only way to heaven. That Sunday morning on March 29, 1994, I received Jesus Christ as my Savior. In June of 1998, my desire to know more of God brought me to the Word of Life Bible Institute in the Philippines. God not only taught me to better understand His word, but also showed me that, "The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few;" (Matthew 9:37). God used that year to show me the need for evangelism in my home country. I wanted to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to the youth of the Philippines. In May 2003, after graduating from Philadelphia Biblical University, my family and I accepted God's call to serve Him in Word of Life Philippines (2006-2015). We spent a year at SYME (School of Youth Ministry in English) in Taiwan to learn that facet of Word of Life ministry. We finished our training in May 2017.

My family and I finally arrived in South Asia (country's name withheld) in June 2017. Our ministry here is more than a year old. Since we are still working on our language study, we are only able to minister to English-speaking nationals. However, our limitation has not limited God neither is He waiting for us till we know the official language before He "launches us into the deep." He has already opened several doors for us to minister.

About Sheila

I was born and raised in a traditional and legalistic religion. After I heard the gospel at age 16, I invited Jesus Christ to be my personal Savior. I wanted then to become a missionary, so I could share Christ with others. However, the Lord had other plans. After many years of growing and learning from His Word, the Lord granted my desire. At age 35, my family and I went back to the Philippines as full time missionaries. Though it had been an awesome adventure serving the Lord there with my husband, Jon, and our four children, we felt God's call to serve Him in South Asia...a country where majority of the people do not know Jesus Christ. Our children-David (2000), Nathan (2003), and Sammy (2005) and Abigail (2010) attend a local school where Jon and I teach religion classes to high school students. It's a wonderful opportunity to teach the Bible.

"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began," 2 Timothy 1:9
