About Katy

At my church in 2000, I thought I made a decision for salvation but looking back, I realized I hadn’t really chosen for it to make a difference in my life. Now I know that I was truly saved in May of 2006 when my dad asked me if I wanted to be saved. I immediately said “yes” because I knew I was missing something in my life – and that was the person of Jesus Christ. During the next couple of years, I started doubting my salvation, so I talked with my youth pastor’s wife many times in the next several weeks. She helped me understand that I had already been genuinely saved and helped me gain a strong reassurance of my salvation.
It was then that I dedicated my life to Christ. I was later baptized in obedience to the Lord’s command and to demonstrate to others my desire to follow Christ wherever He may lead. I did not know where the Lord would take me, but I had Africa on my mind since my great grandparents were pioneer missionaries starting in 1937 and served 40 years on that continent. Also, I have several other relatives and friends who have been missionaries in Africa. I heard their missionary presentations and read their prayer letters. But now my own stories of God’s work in Africa can be made as I am “On Mission for Him” to Uganda with Word of Life Fellowship International (WOL).
After high school, God led me to study for two years at the Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida and New York. This gave me increased learning and understanding from the Bible and it showed me the spiritual needs of the world. At a WOL mission conference, I sensed God’s call in my life to overseas ministry.
During my senior year at Bryan College following my WOL studies, I attended an online WOL mission conference in which I was approved to be a WOL intern in Uganda for two and a half years (2018-2020). I taught in the WOL elementary school, worked in the Chapel’s children’s program, called Sunday School, mentored some of the Bible Institute’s lady students, served in the community outreach programs, and helped in women’s ministries. I am very thankful for that internship. It was a great learning experience. God taught me that He is always with me and that I can trust Him with all aspects of my life (Jeremiah 29:11).
My internship in Uganda solidified my heart’s desire to make missions a life career and WOL confirmed that by appointing me as a vocational missionary in January 2021.
After my internship ended in the summer of 2020, I got a job at a retail store while I relied on the Lord to help me generate prayer and financial support to go back as a career missionary to Uganda. As of September 2023, I have been serving again in Uganda. I am grateful for a great support system in both of my homes (Uganda and Florida).
My new roles as a career missionary in Uganda are: Leader of the Chapel Ladies’ ministry as well as the on-campus staff Ladies’ ministry, Leader of our national interns (students who have finished their Bible Institute education but who remain for more experience before returning to their home area ministries), Leader/Helper in our WOL Chapel’s Sunday School program, Bible Club Leader, and in various outreach/evangelism opportunities. These are challenging responsibilities but I am thankful for the many privileges I have to serve my Lord.
God has showed me that the harvest fields of the world are ripe for harvesting (Matthew 9:37-38) and He has chosen me to be a willing laborer for Him in Uganda. I can say from experience that being a missionary is not easy, but with God on my side all things are possible. I desire to be faithful in all that God has called me to do, regardless of where He places me – on one side of an ocean or the other. I want to be worthy of being called His child.

Titus 2:3-5 (3) The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; (4) That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, (5) To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
