Word of Life has run youth camps in Uganda since 1997 and was officially registered in 2002 under the leadership of our former missionary couple of Thomas and Faith Obunde. The Ministry is involved in supporting the Local Church through trainings, Pastoral support and Bible Clubs programs, a K-12 Christian School, an Accredited 1 Year Bible Institute, Camping Ministry and various evangelistic events. The ministry is now covering 4 of the 10 regions of the country with an aggressive mission to reach all regions by 2022. The staff and missionaries comprises of a total of about 85 team members.
Slightly smaller than Oregon, Uganda is a landlocked, fertile, country located in Eastern Africa. It boasts of having the source of the Nile River coming from the Lake Victoria the 3rd largest lake in the world. Uganda achieved independence from the UK in 1962. There was a lot of political unrest resulting in thousands of deaths in the 1970s and 1980s. The 45 Million population estimates for this country explicitly take into account the effects of excess mortality due to AIDS. Over half of the country? 70% of the population is under the age of 25, with the median age being 14.8 years. 33% of Ugandans claim to be Roman Catholic, 33% Protestant, 16 % Muslim, and the remaining 18% have indigenous beliefs. The official language is English.
