Hi, I'm Melissa Sosa. I minister in the Dominican Republic.
Learn more about the ministry in the Dominican Republic.
I was born into a Catholic family, was baptized into the Catholic church at 3 years old, and took my first communion at 11. I grew up in the fear of the Lord, going to the Catholic Church, leading a religious life with good moral base, and with dedicated parents who were great examples for me; but without Christ as my personal savior. God surrounded me with people who loved me and knew the Lord, who preached the Gospel to me, but I rejected it. But God, in His great mercy, began to work in my life in a moment when I was immersed in work, study, and enjoying my youth.
In my early 20’s, my father who was the pillar of our house began to get sick. At first, I did not understand any of it. I started to feel different, and started seeking the answers to so many things. I found myself under a heavy stress that caused great pain in my body, heart problems, and depression. During all of this, something happened that made me question my eternity. One of my neighbors, who was very young, died of a heart attack. That made me wonder, if I were to die, where would I go? From there I began to feel worse, but I began reading the Bible and studying it with my aunt. One night in my room I realized I had a need (Christ). There I asked Him to come into my life. I didn't know how to tell my family, but I started going to an Evangelical church, and there confirmed what I had done that night. From that moment, God began to work in my life with my illness (stress). I understood that I couldn’t handle it all in my own strength, and through absolute dependence on Jesus, He was healing my mind, my soul, and my body. Over the next few years I was working, and established in my local church. God used the influence of a missionary to open my eyes to the call of missions, and then to open the doors for me to go to the Word of Life Bible Institute in Argentina.
God used that school to continue shaping and changing my life. It was a beautiful to hear the voice of my Savior through studying His word, and to learn His heart for lost souls. That is my passion and I have the certainty and conviction that God has plans for me in His service. I love to see what God is doing in my life.
