Ministry Description

Begun in 1994, the ministry of Word of Life in Dominican Republic today is led by Marcelo Diez. Word of Life Dominican Republic is a youth-focused ministry working with the local church to reach each generation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Word of Life has partnered with over 100 churches and 400 servant leaders in the DR doing Bible Clubs for youth and young adults. Along with that, the camp property has continued to develop and now has a swimming pool, multiple sports courts, and an auditorium and dining hall fit to host up to 600 guests. The camp property is used year-round in many ways, including the Discipleship Training Center, a 1- or 2-year Bible school for high school graduates. The goal is to train young men and women in Biblical studies and ministry and send them out to churches in the Dominican Republic. The school currently has about 50 students enrolled, and these students return home on the weekend to minister with Bible Clubs in their churches. Every year Word of Life has a children's camp in the spring, 4 weeks of teens camp in the summer, and a weekend for young adults. Everyone is involved in spring and summer camp, the missionaries, the students, and the volunteers. Many young people come to know Christ every year!

Hello! My name is Toby Frey, and I will be serving at Word of Life in the Dominican Republic for the next two years! Before Word of life, I was raised up in the church in my younger years, but Christ was not a part of my life. I did not live for Him by any means, but He was still gracious to me. When the Lord got ahold of my heart in my high school years, He drew me to the Word of Life Bible Institute where my mother had previously attended. I spent two years at the Bible Institute, growing in my walk with Christ and learning more about ministry every day. Those two years were super impactful on my relationship with the Lord and on deciding what the future was going to look like for me. It helped me realize that the Lord was calling me to full time ministry. I had no idea what that meant for me, but He was faithful in His plan for me. Soon, I heard about the Cross Cultural Internship at Word of Life. When I learned more about the internship, I knew that is where the Lord wanted me to be for the next two years. After weighing my options and praying earnestly about where specifically I would be serving, the Lord showed me Word of Life in the Dominican Republic. For the next two years the Lord has blessed me with the amazing opportunity to serve Jesus in the Dominican Republic.
