Word of Life South Africa was officially established in September 1998 with the arrival of Todd and Susan Patterson. The Pattersons started several Bible Clubs in the city of Johannesburg. John & Christy Page took over the directorship of the ministry in January 2006. God has expanded the ministry to several cities in South Africa, as well as outreaches into Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Ministries include: Bible Clubs in churches, community fields, and schools, a Discipleship Training Center which is an intense 1 year program that teaches young people life and leadership skills as it partners with Berea Bible Institute South Africa for Bible training, mission trips in and out of country, holiday camps throughout the different school breaks, and internships for South Africans, as well as Americans.
The Word of Life South Africa family is intentionally multicultural. We have stafff from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zambia, China and America.
We praise God for the work that He is doing through the lives of the youth of South Africa and covet your prayers and your financial support as we are developing this generation of young believers to be the next generation of mature believers reaching their own cultural group.
South Africa, situated on the southern tip of the African continent, is a country of variety, contrast and conflict. Years of political violence and the segregation of society mark its past and 38 million people. South Africa has a rich architectural heritage. Its cities represent a mixture of European and African traditions, as well as the blend of the first and third world. There are 11 official languages in the country. South Africa's 1,233,000 sq. km is rich with mountains, plains, coasts, rich farmland and deserts. The country holds the world's biggest sources of gold, platinum and diamonds. A sizable portion of the population regard themselves as traditionalists that base their beliefs on ancestral spirits and supernatural forces. About 16 percent of South Africans are considered Christians, eight percent hold to Catholicism but even more to that, nationals hold to their traditional beliefs of ancestors worship.
